Basic Foam Testing Spreadsheet

The original foam testing spreadsheet that has been available since 2004. This MS Excel spreadsheet calculates the percentage of concentrate in any foam solution mixed with fresh water using a conductivity meter. Spreadsheet requires conductivity measurements of plain tank water, baseline concentrations (2%,3%, and 4% or 4%,6%, and 8%), and a sample to be tested. The spreadsheet reports back the percentage of concentrate in the foam sample in a digital format – no interpreting a graph is required. The results are also color coded, instantly providing the user with too lean, too rich, or “just right” results. Purchase of the basic spreadsheet includes lifetime email and telephone foam testing technical support – not just support for the spreadsheet, but also the foam testing process itself.

Full Foam Testing Spreadsheet

This new addition to our foam testing software includes the conductivity testing algorithm from the Basic Spreadsheet, but adds to it the other NFPA 412 foam tests: 25% draindown/quarter life, expansion ratio, and discharge distance and dimensions. As with the Basic Spreadsheet, purchase of the Full Spreadsheet includes lifetime email and telephone foam testing technical support – not just support for the spreadsheet, but also the foam testing process itself.

Foam Testing Target

NFPA 412, Standard for Evaluating Aircraft Rescue and Fire-fighting Foam Equipment specifies two options to collect foam from an ARFF vehicle’s discharges. Our foam testing target is compliant with Test Method A, which uses two 1000ml graduated cylinders (as opposed to Method B, which uses a single 1600ml container). Our lightweight target folds flat for easy storage, yet is strong enough to easily withstand the discharge of an ARFF vehicle’s turret, even on high flow. The frame of the target is made of welded aircraft-grade aluminum, and includes brackets to hold the included 1000ml graduated cylinders (so they are not knocked loose while being hit by a turret discharge). The standard collection surface is aluminum, but can be upgraded to stainless steel (all-aluminum model in photo).

Conductivity Meter

Any conductivity meter used for foam testing should be simple to use, have an automatic temperature compensation feature, and be robust enough to withstand the use of firefighters in the field. We have offered the VWR 2052 meter in the past, but sadly it has been discontinued. We now offer the Sper Scientific conductivity meter. It is very simple to use, has a selectable automatic temperature compensation feature, and most importantly, has withstood several years of use by our staff without a single failure. Included with the meter is a platinum multipurpose dip cell. With the purchase of a conductivity meter, you will also receive a Basic Foam Testing Spreadsheet. Also included is email and telephone technical support in using the meter for foam testing purposes.
